Location wise, Villa y Mora is in a great place. It is easy to access anywhere you want to go. However, i thought that what was inside the apartment was very poorly put together. At the end of the trip i was charged 350 extra dollars for things that broke out of nowhere. For example, was taking a shower and the shower head shot off and hit me in the head, the bathroom mirror randomly fell out of its frame while i was gone, the remote stopped working even after i put new batteries in, and all of the pots and pans were extremely rusty to the point where i wasn't sure if they were usable.

I have stayed the better part of a month in Costa Rica on two occasions, at two locations, and each place has its merits. The first was a 3-bedroom, 2-bath, town-house in a gated community, in Escuzu. It was nice, and expensive. Too, one needed a car, rental or taxi, to get just about anywhere. The 2nd was Villa y Mora. Though not on the same scale as the town-home, it comes at a great price, it was clean, and it was adequately comfortable from which to operate to visit San Jose and the surrounding area. That it was so reasonable in price meant that I could embark on sojourns elsewhere without having to consider paying high prices for lodging at two locations for the same nights, or checking in/out of hotels, which I find to be a hassle. And I did just that. I went to Panama for several days leaving most of my things at Villa y Mora. But, whether flying to another country in Central america, or driving to other parts of Costa Rica for a few days, the benefit is the same. For just exploring the San Jose area, the apartment is a two-block walk, 250 colones (50 cents), and a 10-12 minute bus ride into downtown San Jose. There, one can soak up the local culture, shop, visit several museums, sightsee, whatever. Even with a rental car, the bus is the way to go. Driving in downtown San Jose "ain't" fun, and parking can be difficult. Waiting for a bus never exceeded more than 20 minutes: mostly, it was 5-7 minutes. There are grocery shops within easy walking distance of the apartment. Two smaller shops are within 2 1/2 blocks, and the walks are pleasant (including the walks to the shops a bit further away). Those working in the shops are helpful, even if one doesn't know the language (me). Unless buying so much a car is needed for transport, then in my view walking is the way to go. Furthermore, the proprietor, Maria, is very accommodating and helpful. I'm not sure when, but I will be returning to Villa y Mora.

I stayed here for 3 mos. fm Jan to Apr. The place was comfortable. There were some minor annoyances, the worst of which were the barking dogs at night. Not great for sleeping. Maria (land lady) however, made up for all of that with her terrific hospitality. She included a free pick up at the airport, speaks English, and went out of her way to do what she could to make your trip as enjoyable as possible. If you want to stay here or go to the San Jose area in general and want more info, let me know and I'll send it to you. Maria's place is up for sale so book soon if you want to be sure and stay there. Good travels, Michael
