    Convento San Francesco
Formerly a convent of Saint Francis of Assisi, this extraordinary home is a paragon of Italian Renaissance architecture, and has been lovingly renovated to become a magical retreat for families and friends. The convent is part of a 16th century estate designed by Antonio da San Gallo, the most influential architect of his time. It’s set atop a wooded ravine on 26 acres of magnificent Tuscan countryside, with sprawling views of distant vineyards and sheep grazing in the meadow below. Step inside the house and you’ll be awestruck by the opulent interiors. There are multiple living areas, the most grand being the former winemaking room, with its original giant chestnut barrels, a limestone wine cellar below, and a long banquet table that seats twenty. The kitchen is fully kitted out for cooking up Italian feasts, or if you prefer, a private chef is available to hire. There are plenty of cosy sitting rooms to relax in – perhaps you’ll want ...More Details

    Silent Hills
Perched on its own hilltop and just twenty minutes from Saturnia's famous thermal springs, this traditional farmhouse is the place for you if you're really trying to get away from it all. With nothing to bother you apart from the sounds of the local wildlife and the twinkling of the stars at night, it's a rural retreat for nature lovers, artists and musicians. Here the order of the day is country walks, reading in the shade, whipping up delicious meals each evening and just generally enjoying the good life. There's no need to rush anything here. But if, after breakfast on the terrace, those views across the iconic hills have motivated you to explore, that's easily done too. Head to the surrounding villages to see their Etruscan and Roman ruins, explore Montemerano – a twenty-five-minute drive away – and don't miss the nearby thermal springs. A little isolated for some, it's a short drive to pick up supplies or eat out – but for others, t...More Details

    The Lavender Harvest
It’s all about the good life at this Italian villa. We’re not just talking la dolce vita, but the full, sustainable package. It’s on an enchanting eco lavender farm, so the fields around you are fragrant as perfume and the villa has its own orto (vegetable garden) which you’re welcome to harvest. Perhaps cook fresh-veg-topped pizzas in the antique pizza oven outdoors, and enjoy at one of two terraces, overlooking the rolling countryside. For days at home, there’s a sparkling swimming pool to cool off in, a petanque court and ping pong too. We’re impressed by this villa’s eco-credentials, supplied by renewable energy and with natural aromatherapy oils on offer from the lavender farm. Inside, it’s a calming medley of Japanese zen and Scandi-chic touches. The living room is set around a big fireplace and raw-wood tables and wicker lampshades are a nod to your natural surroundings. The kitchen could be the envy of any professional chef, wit...More Details

    Views Of The Vineyard
If you want to go off the beaten track for your Tuscan adventures, then this home is a great pick for you. Located in the Maremma region, it's a quiet spot surrounded by vines where you can truly kick back and relax in style. The cosy interiors will make you feel at home right away – think warming colours, plush fabrics, and rich wood details. It's the ideal place to enjoy some respite from the heat, but we think you'll want to spend most of your time soaking up the sunshine outside. Mix a round of Aperol Spritzes at the outdoor bar, before settling down on a lounger to catch some rays. Take a dip in the swimming pool if you need to cool down, and when evening rolls around you can fire up the barbeque for a delicious grilled feast in the fresh air. The sleepy hilltop village of Montemassi is just a five-minute drive away, where you can visit the ancient gates, churches, and castle. Walkers are in luck, as the Nel mezzo alla Maremma hiki...More Details

    The Fortune Teller
In many ways, this is the quintessential Tuscan villa. Formerly a farmhouse belonging to a member of the Borghese family, it sits within a large garden filled with ancient olive trees, herbs and aromatic flowers. From the elevated position, there's a gorgeous view of the Tyrrhenian Sea and local hillsides. In addition to this stunning setting, there's a private swimming pool out in this space, as well as a wisteria-covered pergola complete with an alfresco dining area and a lounge underneath. Heading In through the arched doorways, the interior lives up to the high expectations set by the exterior. A tasteful selection of antique furnishings — like the marble fireplace in the living room — sit next to artworks hanging on the walls and some more contemporary fittings. And to top it all off, there's such a wide range of distractions to be found in the local Monte Argentario peninsula, from the long Fenigila Beach ten minutes' drive away an...More Details

    The Artist's Academy
Staying at this country manor feels like stepping back in time, with its tapestries, chandeliers and grand fireplaces. Though its decor may not be for everyone, it’s certainly a unique place. It’s also an ideal home to share with a large group of people, thanks to its three kitchens, several living areas and the added luxury of all bedrooms having their own en-suite. Outside you’ll find a large garden, boasting a heated pool with hydro-massage, as well as an outdoor terrace complete with bar and barbecue –perfect for alfresco dining. For a change of scenery you can take a fifteen-minute drive to spend the afternoon at Spiaggia Marina di Grosseto beach. *The traditional decor here might not be to everyone's taste. You'll also find expensive artwork and ornaments in this home, so it might not be the best choice if you're travelling with young children. \n \n *The swimming pool isn't fenced. This clifftop villa caught our eye for its views across the Tyrrhenian Sea. Located in the coastal town of Punta Ala, you’ll have direct access to the water, via steep private steps from the garden (the trek back up isn’t for the faint-hearted). There are two living rooms here (although the design may not be everyone's cup of tea), and all of the bedrooms are en-suite, so it’s a great option for a group. We love the outdoor spaces most of all – you’ll have a choice of spots to enjoy a morning espresso, alfresco lunch, or sundowner while admiring the panoramas. Location-wise, you'll find a beach, a golf course, and Punta Ala Marina all within a few minute's drive. *If you're travelling with little ones, your host can provide a cot for free. You'll need to request it in advance. *This is a lived-in home. You should expect some of the host's personal belongings to be present during your stay.*The three baths have showerheads but no shower...More Details

    Wild Branch
This eco-friendly villa, with stunning views of the Tuscan countryside, is situated close to the medieval town of Grosseto. It boasts some pretty nifty features, such as an indoor fitness area with gym equipment and a sauna. But that’s not all. Outside, there are several seating and relaxation areas, as well as a pool. Though it’s on the small side, it’s still a welcome treat during the scorching months. A short drive takes you into Grosseto, where you’ll find numerous good eateries, as well as different sights such as the cathedral and archaeological museum. *The swimming pool isn't fenced. If you're bringing little ones, they'll need to be supervised at all times. As Free As The Sea
Perched on a cliffside on the edge of Monte Argentario, the sunset views from this home are sublime. From the dining table on the terrace, you can gaze out over the sea and there are plenty of seating nooks in the shade. The real highlight is the private staircase leading down the cliffside to a rocky swim platform set up with loungers and parasols. Just remember, it’s quite a climb back up to the villa. The living room is huge, so big groups will feel at home here, and a wall of windows shows off the sea view inside. Tiles in the bathrooms might be a little garish for some, but who cares when the outside space comes with that view. *While not all of the bedrooms and bathrooms are photographed, expect the style and quality to be consistent with the rest of the home.*This villa has a private staircase to the sea, but there are quite a lot of stairs to the bottom and it's a rocky shore rather than a sandy beach.*A stay here includes a da...More Details
