LOCATION
Yaxchilan is located at Mayan Beach Garden, a TripAdvisor Travelor's choice top-rated BnB. It is located 20 km north of the nearest town of Mahahual and is the closest Restaurant/Bar to the Southern entrance of the Sian Ka'an biosphere, a World Heritage protected wetlands reserve. The beach is Federal and extends for kilometers on both directions. Taxi from town is 310 pesos each way, but we go to town at least every other day and can provide rides. Busses arrive in Mahahual daily, and vans or combis come and go every hour. The closest Airport is Chetumal where transport to Mahahual is frequent. Optionally guests travel from Cancun on Public transport or rent vehicles.
ACTIVITIES
Directly in front of the hotel the beach is sandy and perfect for swiming. There is a coral head with many fish about 75 meters from shore. To the north, less than 1 KM there is wonderful snorkeling with live coral and fish where the water is very calm. For those who have their own fishing equipment, within walking distance, there is fly-fishing. This is a birders paradise with up to 350 varieties of birds. If you have a car, day trips into the Sian Ka'an are interesting. Several Mayan Ruins are within 2 hours distance, each is unique and worth visiting. Marcia (the owner) holds art days once a week for those interested and cooking classes are available on-site.
