Newly-renovated, one bedroom eco-annexe guest suite on the ground floor

This annexe, based in the grounds of a village house with land is perfect for a brief escape into the countryside, or longer rental for small families, digital nomads, keen permaculturists and gardeners. We are perfectly situated for a short break to the wine-making countryside, or a longer stay for house-hunters, those who work online and escapees from the rat race. We have full fibre broadband included in your stay via a hotspot in the camp kitchen!

Newly-renovated, one bedroom eco-annexe guest suite on the ground floor, comprising an open plan sitting and kitchen area, one bedroom (with a double and bunk bed, so sleeps 2+2) and a private shower room. This is 29m2 tiny home, totally self-contained annexe of our traditional Portuguese village house – your hosts live on site.

Access is via our main gate, around the side of the house and onto a terrace which contains a basic camp kitchen (shared use). The sitting room contains modular sofas and NEW wood burning stove. At the other end of the room, a lovingly refurbished, kitsch kitchen comprising sink, units for storage, full gas hob and oven and small fridge. The shower room has a large shower made from an old wine barrel, compost toilet (bucket system - you need to take the bucket down the garden!) and sink. The bedroom is fresh and simply furnished, with a double bed, bunks, chest of drawers and hooks for hanging clothes.

The house and 4,000 m2 of mature land are nestled in a private setting away from the main village street. The village has a bakery, fruit, vegetable and flower seller and café, with an annual wine-making festival.

In 1km walking distance there is a shamanic/yoga studio we can introduce you to.

Miranda do Corvo and all the usual facilities of a town, including a great weekly farmer's market is 5 minutes by car.

At 5 minutes by car are all the facilities of Miranda do Corvo (a typical small market town). Within 20 minutes by car are many beautiful river beaches, mountains of Serra da Lousã, the City of Coimbra, Roman ruins of Conimbriga. We are 45 minutes from the coast at Figueira da Foz.

We are 1 minute from the nearest junction of the main A13 highway, using this road you can be in Coimbra in 10 minutes.

Guests have access to the our family garden, which is wild, productive and in constant change. Directly outside Figueira is a terrace which also contains the camp kitchen and a beautiful old Linden Tree.

The Figueira that the Annexe is named after is just outside and is a glorious old tree, very productive and delicious! This leads to a roughly level lawn with trees and a kids trampoline. It is a work in progress! We often have small scale building works ongoing (natural building, for example) and the garden is beautiful but still has undeveloped areas.

There is a long drop compost toilet in the garden and a shower with water heated from the sun.

There are various approximately terraced levels on a gentle South West slope, many mature trees including orange, fig, olive and native oaks and our growing vegetable garden.

We are gradually making changes with a permaculture ethos and we are also working to develop more guest spaces and restore the outdoor kitchen. We are a small family of three and we speak English, a little French - our Portuguese is improving!

We relocated to Portugal from the UK, so we are sympathetic to those looking to find their own place. We believe in "learning by doing" and we have links to local home-educating and alternative lifestyle groups that we can share with you during your stay, if you wish.
