Or, hail a cab and head to El Retiro Park – you can even reach the park by foot if you are up to a roughly thirty-minute walk. This is an incredible green space that was once exclusively for royalty until it was opened to the public in the late nineteenth century. Here, you can enjoy a leisurely stroll as you admire the ornate fountains and see the statues of famous Spanish writers and heroes before taking a break in one of the many open-air cafes on offer.
Why not also enjoy a wine tasting on your trip – which can be reached within fifteen minutes by car – and take your favourite bottle home to be opened as you cook dinner. Then enjoy a delicious selection of tapas as you sip on local wine, and on warmer nights savour your drink on the terrace to get one last look at the impressive city views.
