This stretch of coastline on the east side of Sicily is so dramatically beautiful that the Plemmiro Marine Protected Area was created in 2005 to protect the natural riches. As it so happens, this villa sits just above the sea in the region and you'll be grateful for the conservation effort as you gaze out at the scenery.
You probably won't be surprised to learn that it's very easy to embrace the alfresco lifestyle here. The swimming pool offers an inviting spot to cool off from the Mediterranean heat, while you can also cook up a storm in the outdoor kitchen and dine on the adjoining terrace, as well. To top it all off, the home's balconies offer perhaps the best vantage point, especially around sunset time.
When you finally get around to looking around inside, you'll find an elegantly designed home that brings together traditional aspects, such as the exposed stonework and rich tiled flooring, with more contemporary aspects, like the stark white walls and muted green kitchen.
You'll only be able to look out at the landscape for so long before temptation takes over and you have to go for a swim in the sea – fortunately, there's a rocky beach all of 150m from the home. The city of Syracuse – A UNESCO World Heritage Site, no less – is well worth a visit too and only 13km away.
