Description: Villa-House in Pahoa HI

Paradise Getaway

This is a Seasonal Rental with a maximum of 6 month term.
It's a great house. This is a clean and affordable place to stay.
We are conveniently located in the tropical district of Puna, on the Big Island of Hawaii. We are a logical gateway from which you can explore the strikingly beautiful, utterly raw, and uncrowded natural surroundings of East Hawaii. We are a 20 minute drive from the Hilo International Airport, a 5 minute drive from the town of Pahoa, a 20 minute drive to the sunny Kapoho beach parks, and an easy 40 minute drive from Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. Come relax, unwind, and fill your days with fascinating activities.
"Paradise Getaway" is located on a 1/4 acre lot, in Anialoa subdivision. Our house is surrounded by undeveloped lots on 3 sides, increasing your feeling of privacy. Our yard is tropical and ever developing. My husband David designed and built this house himself. Upon entering you will feel at home, with our comfortable and open floor plan. It has vaulted open beam ceilings, and plenty of large windows, allowing for tropical breezes to flow thru. Every room also has ceiling fans, it is easy to adjust the temperature based on air flow. We have a fully equipped kitchen with many cooking and dining conveniences, so relax and cook at home, or grill out on our charcoal grill. Our sleeping area has a new and comfortable queen sized bed. There is a large closet with room for luggage, and drawers to unpack for your stay. We also have a fold out futon where 2 additional people can sleep. Our bathroom is clean, spacious, and has a full sized bathtub / shower which is heated by solar hot water. Most houses in the Puna district rely on rain catchment systems for their water needs. We invested in a 10,000 gallon concrete rain catchment tank, complete with a state of the art UV filter. This ensures ample water supply, and a delicious and safe water source for all your drinking, cooking, and bathing needs. When comparing vacation rentals in this area, keep these quality eco-friendly features in mind. To help you get out and enjoy we provide the following: beach towels, sand mats, basic snorkel gear, boogies board, small ice chest / cooler, kids sand toys, and flash lights for your night time lava viewing. Don't forget, we have on-site laundry! A FRIENDLY NOTE: Our house is on a quiet street, and we request no loud parties. We have a strict NO SMOKING / NO PET POLICY for the comfort of all future guests. THANKS
People are always courious what the weather may be like; it is dynamic! A "typical day" might be sunny and warm with some fast moving clouds and a short rain squal. It frequently rains at night and in the early morning, keeping it cool and comfortable for sleeping. The combination of sun, warmth, and rain, is what makes it look so tropical, and beautiful! It is helpful to pack a long sleeve shirt / pants, closed toe walking shoes for the lava, and a light rain coat. The following are all within an easy days drive: Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, Hwy 130/Kalapana -previous lava flows, snorkeling at tide pools, soaking at warm ponds, surfing /swimming, farmers markets,Lava Trees, tropical gardens, zoo, downtown Pahoa and Hilo (restaurants/museums/shopping)

avatar We thoroughly enjoyed staying at the Paradise Getaway!

Kirsten was an amazing host. Everything went smoothly and as planned. Kirsten was also very helpful in giving us tips to make our trip better. The listing and info was all accurate. We thoroughly enjoyed staying at the Paradise Getaway, would do it again, and recommend it to others! Thanks for the breakfast on arrival and for the fresh pineapple. Your tip for the discount Hawaii car rental was great and we ended up using it. With the free additional driver, it was the cheapest option. We also made use of the Big Island Revealed guide book that you had available at the house several times during our stay and enjoyed all the little extra comforts at the house. We made use of the little cooler and beach towels on one outing. The washer and dryer were convenient too. It was nice to come back and relax and watch a little TV in the evenings then wake up and have coffee and breakfast before venturing out for the day. We loved Volcanoes National Park, went there two different days. We were celebrating our anniversary which turned into an engagement atop the volcano! We then had dinner at the Volcano House's Rim restaurant which was perfect. Besides that we liked "the strip" in Pahoa and tried out the Thai and Mexican restaurants there. I'd only been to Oahu before and liked the Big Island better. There was more beautiful natural surrounding to look at, it was less touristy, and I thought the food was better. I'm vegetarian and it was pretty easy to find good options for me. We went zip-lining one day in Kapa'au and used Big Island Eco adventures II. We'd definitely recommend them. Not only did it allow us to see a different part of the island by driving to Kapa'au but our tour guides were super cool and gracious. I also went for my first ride in a helicopter. We did a volcano and waterfall helicopter tour using Blue Hawaiian helicopters. We also had a good experience with the people there.

avatar Wonderful Cozy Cottage

I would give this cottage 5 stars if it were closer to the ocean or had a view. That's the only reason why I'm not because in every other way it is top drawer. It's on a paved road easy to reach from the main road. It is peaceful and quiet, clean and brand new construction. The owners built this cottage with loving detail and then filled it chock full of little touches that make it feel like home. We love the wide veranda and granite counter tops. They have a huge water catchment that supplies all the shower power you need. The kitchen is equipped with all new stuff. Only the washer/dryer are older but they work very well. The cleaning person left fresh fruit on the counter for us when we arrived which was a nice touch. I've stayed in other rentals that were ok but they weren't worth the price. They nailed it on this one. For a couple or good friends or a family of three I would recommend it without hesitation.

avatar Sehr schöne Unterkunft auf Big Island
Rating: (5) rate

avatar Clean and simple, but unfortunately has maintenance issues
Rating: (3) rate
My wife and I have been contributing travel reviews to Trip Advisor for 10 years. During those years we have stayed in many vacation rentals. We were attracted to this rental because of the good reviews, but were largely disappointed. Because we rented this house for 2 weeks we learned a lot about its pluses and minuses: The Minuses: Most of the problems are related to maintenance, which are probably a result of the owners living and managing the property from Alaska. In response to our complaints there was the suggestion that we should expect less because of the price, a position we find hard to accept when it comes to maintenance issues, (as opposed to the size, simplicity, or location of the accommodations). When we gently suggested a refund of 2 days for the sleep discomfort we experienced, the owners reminded us of the price they were charging. Examples: we struggled to open and lock the front door every day, due to the condition of the lock; the queen bed creaks like crazy every time one turns; the smoke detector alarm went off at night; while we support solar powered homes the water was often cool/inconsistent, and after hiking 8 miles in the rain we definitely wanted a hot shower. By far our biggest complaint was the noisy refrigerator which often kept waking us at night. After being incredibly patient for a week, the fridge began running constantly and not cooling well, so we finally contacted the owners. On the plus side they responded by purchasing a quiet replacement. On the minus side the owners lectured us on how expensive and difficult it was to replace the refrigerator, chided us for not reporting it earlier, questioned why none of their previous guests had not complained, and then appeared upset that their cleaner had to supply extra coolers to transfer food (50% of it left by previous guests) to the new refrigerator. Their long emails unfortunately detracted from our vacation. The Pluses: The studio style home is clean, modern, and relatively quiet. The kitchen and dinner ware is adequate. It has a very nice deck, however it did not protect us as much as we would have liked from the rain. It was not as private as we had expected because the neighbor lives 50 feet away and he spends time in front of the window that looks directly into the bedroom and living area - so one has to be careful to keep the curtains drawn. The location is good for visiting the Hilo area attractions; the Volcano National Park; Mauna Kea; and for hiking the Kalapana trail to the lava flow into the Pacific. If you plan to spend time on the Kona Coast, where the best swimming and snorkeling is, it is a good 2 hour drive each way, and would be better to find accommodations on the West side of the Island. Also we recommend avoiding driving to the house during the daily evening commute time as the long lines of slow moving traffic can be a grind. We would recommend this home only if the price is extremely important to you. Also a note that the TV cable programs lack CNN.
