Ideal Garden Flat with vegan cafe: for 1-5 guests

Enjoy a relaxing stay in Accra at Legassi Gardens Apartments- a blend of African roots and Caribbean flair, now with UNLIMITED broadband wireless internet access, with a SOLAR- POWERED option from our provider.
The apartments are completely self-contained with a choice of either 2 bedrooms or a spacious studio. They are set in a garden compound, with many trees and flowers; and table tennis and badmington can be played al fresco. There is also an on-site Health and Convenience Store and Vegan Cafe.
We offer the apartments with big discounts for long stay /students /interns/ volunteers and single occupants.
Our area, Pokuase, is a vibrant and bustling part of Accra with lots of local shopping, bars and 'hangouts' called 'spots'. It is particularly interesting at night as the shopping zone is open very late, with bargains and local foods on sale. The area is ideal for the adventurous tourist, wanting to experience the culture of Accra. Guests can feel free to wander, or just jump on a trotro and blend in. Pokuase is also becoming increasingly more 'Cosmopolitan', with many exclusive 'Gated Residential Estates' in the area.
We are around 10 minutes from Achimota Mall, a modern shopping centre with Shoprite and other international stores. We are also close to the shopping and bars of Kwabenya, around ACP area; or 20/25 minutes from Accra Mall off Tetteh Quashie; or 20 minutes from the new 'West Hills' Mall, by car.
Each of the 2 bedroom apartments can accommodate up to four persons, with 2 people sharing each bedroom; we can also allow a 5th person to use the sitting area with an extra bed or mattress, at a small additional fee.
The STUDIO APARTMENTS are for 1-2 persons, and are a completely new build, with fantastic views of the town and beyond, and easy access to the roof terrace..
The apartments are regularly refurbished (usually after each long stay occupant), tiled throughout, and tastefully furnished, with basic kitchenette (with table top cooker, fridge, cooking utensils); sitting area with television and fans; shower room; private patio with seating and shoe rack; and own private front door for entrance.
The price is always negotiable; and for long stay guests the rent is paid monthly. The price is inclusive of:
-electricity, water, gas
-cleaning, washing, gardening, security (although 'tipping' is standard)
-full maintenance services-off street parking
-wireless internet access
-backup generator, which we put on when light is off
-our own bore hole water source with a filtration system, so that water can be pumped straight into your tank to avoid water shortages in your apartment.
We have international guests from all over Europe, USA and beyond, visiting Ghana for a range of reasons (study, work, romance) all mixing in an Afrohemian atmosphere!
Live-in staff are on-site to provide security and assistance whenever needed, and take care of housekeeping, laundry and many errands for tips.
The 'ital' or Afro-vegan café is open for breakfast and closes in the late evening. We serve 'italized' Caribbean and local dishes, our own ital recipes and also prepare meals as requested.
We are a non-smoking establishment, but provide designated smoking areas when requested.
Our walled compound is environmentally cool: lush and green, with seating amongst the many flowers. We also have the ideal eco-conscious alternative to air-conditioning in our apartments: Well-Ventilated Rooms with Super-Sized Windows. Open your windows and enjoy the naturally cool hill-side breeze flowing through your apartment. This is better for your health, gentler on your skin, and completely harmless to our environment!
We are ideal for visitors who prefer not to stay in the cramped, noisy and exorbitantly priced centre of Accra surrounded by 'expats', but who are free to enjoy a relaxed stay in 'local' Accra, dipping in and out of the city centre! Sit in the garden and listen to our many birds, watch our garden butterflies, or play a game of 'Oware' under the palm frond canopy..
We are located on a hill just off the Achimota (N6) motorway in a residential area, accessible from either ACP or Pokuase Junction. There is a busy bus station at the junction, where you can get transport all over town, with rapid and frequent loading during the day.
Pokuase Train Stop is also only 3 minutes walk away, and you can take a train (when in service) into central Accra, or to Nsawam, twice daily, and back.
Our area is the traditional homeland of the Ga people, the historical custodians of the land of the capital city of Accra. If you come at festival times you can take part in exuberant dancing and celebrating with the local people, and enjoy the regalia of durbars honoring the local chiefs. There are also sacred shrines to the Ga people in our vicinity.

For my two months in Ghana the denizens of Legassi Gardens were my family. Nana and his Mrs. Nana cared for me when I got sick. When I wanted to go exploring, I could count on Agyiengo to accompany me. What a wonderful place. I had friends who lived in Accra central. Every weekend I would make the easy trip into the city, 30-60 mins by public transport. On Sunday I would make the trip back, eager to return to the peace of Pokuase and Legassi Garden. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Everyone is friendly and outgoing, the food is excellent, the rooms are clean, nothing is lacking in any respect.

Recently spent some time in the hills of Pokuase, just on outskirts of town, in the garden of Eden at Legassi Gardens. Highly recommended. Have stayed here a few times and have always recommended same to friends, both local and international. The road networks are improving with a new motorway under construction,it's now half an hour to Kokrobite beach, Bojo Beach -one of Ghana's best beaches. Plus faster access to Cape Coast. Much of the produce is home grown and organic, or locally grown. All in all, a lovely stay every time!

Any time I come to Ghana this is the place I head for, friendly, clean and above all an escape from the craziness of accra! I have been there so much that I see it as my second home! The guesthouse is situated in Greater accra, but has very good links into town. The grounds are serene and well maintained. The apartments are individual and very relaxing with fantastic views from the top floor. So I would highly recommend place as a place to stay short term or long term.

Every time I come to Ghana, I always stay at this wonderful place, peaceful, serene and homely. The place is full of character and every apartment is individual, there's also a vegan restaurant for those nights when you feel like eating out but not going out! The team who run the guest are amiable, helpful and attentive. Last time I stay for over 2 months, it was really a home away from home. I would definitely recommend this place.

Very pretty place, nicely decorated and light and airy and everything worked!!!. Had whole apartment to myself on a business trip. The location is quiet but the town is a pleasant walk away down the hill and the city centre is a bus ride. Nana is very helpful and has many stories to tell about the place and I used their recommended escorts. I can't thank Nana and his staff enough for making my stay so enjoyable. It's a real oasis.

As a regular visitor in Ghana I love to stay in Legassi Gardens. Nana and his crew have created a wonderful little oasis in greater accra. The apartments are spacious and clean, the staff is warmhearted and the cook makes a great veggie meal. Legassi Gardens also has a small shop where you can buy your basic needs and self-made souvenirs. Thank you Nana, for making me feel comfortable and at home in Ghana.

I had a horrible experience. I stayed in one of the ground floor apartments. This place was nothing like the pictures. It was so dirty and dingy and I had to threaten that I was going to leave before they sent someone to clean it for the second time on the day that I arrived. Even after the cleaning it was so dirty I was afraid I would catch something. The outside looks like it does in the pictures but the inside looks like nothing in the pictures. The worst aspect was the really gross shower curtain that I had to insist needed to be changed. I am not sure it was even changed. I think it was cleaned. Anyway after two nights I left even though I initially wanted to stay for 5 weeks as I was visiting Ghana for research, and I forfeited whatever was to be left of my $200 deposit. By the way if you want to spend a lot of time in the city of Accra, this place is not for you. This place is located in a town called Pokuase not Accra, which they do not mention in the listing.

Accra has a lot going for it - an incredible vibrant, growing city; safe and welcoming with great beaches and music. I strongly recommend staying at the peaceful Legassi Gardens - easy enough to get to the city centre but close to the countryside and rural life. As accra continues to grow I'm sure these comfortable apartments will remain a special area of calm. The owners and staff are welcoming and help you get used to the city and surrounds, and can also help arrange voluntary work with local organisations.

From the time I was picked up at the airport to the time I left, the service I received at Legassi Gardens was friendly and professional. My needs were not just met, they were anticipated and for this I was truly grateful. Traveling alone in another country can be quite overwhelming, but because of the staff's attention to my needs, I felt very safe and supported. The accommodations were perfect and having a kitchenette really helped me save money during my five weeks stay. I really liked the fact that Legassi Gardens is located on the outskirts of the city, which allowed me to have access to some of the local villages. I would definitely stay there again!

For me, the location is perfect because it is in walking distance of Pokuase town. Other options that are also close to Pokuase town do not compare at all in terms of space, comfort, and nature. Legassi Gardens offers big self-contained apartments so I could cook my own food and spread out my belongings in the sitting room. Their shop offers all of the essentials (sachet water and Star beer) so there is no need to lug anything up from town. No one comes in your room to tidy up unless you request it, so for me that was a plus. I felt very comfortable and safe. If you don't like walking a bit or of you have bad knees then you may have a little trouble coming to and from town, but I enjoyed the little bit of exercise. I wish I had known about Legassi Gardens the last few trips I made to Ghana!

and I recently stay at the accommodation with my partner Soji (House 5). I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed the stay at Legassi Gardens. The staff was very polite and very accommodating to me and my needs. The actual accommodation itself was 100% nicer than I accepted. The rooms are spacious and clean, with a nice open plan living area/ kitchenette. It was so peaceful to be around the grounds in and out of Legassi. We got some clothing made, we used the cafe- prices were reasonable. I got a freshly squashed orange juice most mornings very Delisious!!! I can't believe the oranges are grown in the grounds. Wifi was fast and on point, made many calls and checked emails with no problems. This is a place that I woulde defo come back too. Transfer from and to the airport arranged by them, one of them men even showed us around the local area (a few times during our short stay- at no cost). If your looking for a place that is calm and clean with really nice people (staff included) and are on a budget this ticks all the boxes and so much more. Thank you very much for a wonderful holiday

I spent a week at Legassie Gardens and had a wonderful time in this garden oasis with its rootsy feel and laid back ambience.I loved the beautiful garden in which the apartment was set and also the magnificent view from our balcony which was on the top floor and presented a panorama spanning the hills on the horizon and the roof tops of the town nearby. Being keen on my food I was really happy to be served a healthy breakfast, including fresh juice from local fruits, each morning. The apartment was spacious and comfortable with nice touches like a complimentary bowl of fruit upon arrival. A major positive of the locality where Legassie Gardens is situated is the low incidence of moquitos compared to more densely populated areas in the capital accra. The staff were very helpful and the owners, Nana Kwame and Jacinta, were the perfect hosts. I will definitely be visiting again. Kto

This is a lovely oasis within easy reach from accra and the airport. When I was met at the airport by Nana Kwame and his Jeep- I knew I had booked the right place. He was friendly and helpful and a minefield of information about Ghana and places of interest. I stayed for one week in a two bedroom apartment. It was spacious, and clean with its own terrace overlooking the lush gardens and vegetarian cafe. We had great views of the hills and saw and heard the local wildlife. The light and airy apartments are well thought out; comfy beds, spacious wardrobes, and high ceilings that keep things cool. It had a separate spacious kitchen complete with kitchenware so all you needed to do was take a trip to the supermarket or local stalls. There is a nice relaxed vibe here, and the staff went the extra mile to make me feel comfortable and welcome. I really liked that they could bring breakfast to my terrace!

I felt like had escaped to a garden, and it didn't really feel like accra at all! But I could get round easily, just fine, and went to centre of town often, just walked down the hill and onto a main road with all the buses, taxis etc. This place is just really pretty, the apartment was cosy, clean and comfortable. The staff were great, always around to help, they live 'on-site' down the bottom I think. I still always felt private and safe. I did cook in my little kitchen, which was great, especially for eating what I was familiar with, and snacking. I plan to come again, couldn't find anywhere like this while was here, at least not for such a budget price! When the motorways round here are finished I guess they will put up their prices. For now, it's a steal!

If you are looking for an authentic african experience and you are on a budget , this is the perfect resort. The accomdations are clean , relaxed and within a safe environment. The eco-friendly foliage provides the feeling of living within a garden and the on site restaurant provides an delicious Vegan variety of foods that combines well with any requested authentic african dishes.. The hosts are very helpful with arranging any day trips that you need or any business advise required to complete your stay... With a private kitchen , you also have the option to prepare your own foods as you like...The mixture between a private stay and arranged trips within the village makes it a realistic slice of africa for the average Westerner.

Nana and his staff at Legassi Gardens go out of their way to create a peaceful, serene, beautiful and comfortable environment. This has become our place of choice when we are working in GaWest and Pokuasi. Even when there are power challenges in the district, Nana finds a way to make these bearable. The voices of his children next door to the apartments gives us a sense of being home with family. My granddaughter has also become a regular at Legassi when she is in the region. The apartments will accommodate 3-4 with comfort; you can do your own cooking or enjoy what is available locally. I highly recommend Legassi Gardens.

I stayed in Legassi Gardens for 3 months on my first visit to Ghana, and indeed my first visit to Africa. Feeling a little overwhelmed on arrival after a very long journey it was so wonderful to be met by Nana and Ajingo at the airport. Their warm smiles immediately put me at ease. The café wasn't fully operational during my visit as they were renovating the café area, however it was no trouble at all to Nana to whip me up a delicious vegetarian meal to eat in my apartment. Bliss! I felt like I had come home. The compound is up on a hill in Pokuase, not in central Accra. This was perfect for me and I really enjoyed the walk up the hill from Pokuase (you'll lose weight!). If you have mobility problems you would definitely need to take a taxi or have your own transport, but if you're not afraid of a little bit of exercise you'll love the walk up, getting to know the local shop owners and some of the locals. Even as you get fitter with the walk it'll take you much longer because you'll be chatting all the way up! There are 6 apartments in total, BEAUTIFUL gardens and a tiny shop down below. The café, as I said, wasn't open during my stay however I was lucky enough just before I left Accra in May 2015 to have a delightful invitation to have the first meal in the new café! If that meal is anything to go by you will not be disappointed by the food - fresh vegetables in a delicious sauce and freshly squeezed orange juice was on the menu. The shop sells basic provisions like bottled water, snacks and candles (yes, this is Ghana, so the electricity does go off...a generator was in use for an hour or so in the morning and several hours in the evening if the power was off during my stay). Be aware that although there is wifi this will not work when the power is off, so you might like to invest in a portable battery powered modem which I found quite useful. The staff were always available to help you out if you needed anything, and Ajingo was a most wonderful guide when I needed, showing me how to get around on the trotros and introducing me to another vegetarian restaurant in town. Whoever is around will help you with whatever you need, be it directions, advice or just a nice chat! My apartment was comfortable and breezy. A fan was available but I found that being high up the hill meant a pleasant breeze ran through the apartment so I didn't really use it. The apartment I was in consisted of a porch with 2 chairs to sit out and enjoy the garden, sitting room with table, chairs and sofa, 2 big bedrooms, a basic kitchen and basic bathroom. The water went off a couple of times but this was fixed so quickly that it was never an issue - I believe the apartments get their water from a borehole, and is pumped up to the storage tank, so if the water went off it was just a case of re-filling the tank and this never took long. I really loved my apartment. It isn't The Ritz, so if you feel the need for swish luxury white goods and an extensively stocked kitchen then maybe this isn't the place for you. I had the necessary pots and pans, cutlery and crockery, and it was easy to find a few extra bit and bobs I needed in the nearby town of Pokuase. There were very occasional uninvited guests in the form of insects and lizards, but again this is Africa! I actually loved the tiny little lizards with their pale bodies that wiggled when they ran, and also they eat mosquitoes which is a bonus - so they were allowed to stay! If you need to be closeted away from that sort of thing and exist in a bubble then don't stay here - go and stay in some sterile western style hotel with fancy curtains and air-con. But if you want to meet some of the most warm, friendly, genuine hosts, and have your own apartment with lovely hand tie-died furnishings, a comfy bed, and a lush green gardens to gaze at from your very own porch, all within a safe compound then you can't go wrong with Legassi Gardens :) I absolutely loved it here.

Legassy Gardens is in an ideal location. Close enough to Accra city center to make frequent and easy trips into town but far enough out to feel the authentic experience of Ghanian culture and have some quiet from the busy city. Theres a beautiful beach (bojo Beach) just one short bus ride away and a bus station about 5 minutes walk from the hotel. The hotel itself is placed on top of a small hill overlooking the town and the locals living in the area were very friendly and welcoming. Also, the staff at the hotel are extremely helpful and polite. They always have good advise on where to visit within Ghana and willing to show you how to get there. Overall I don't have a single bad thing to say about my experience at Legassy. I stayed there for 1 month and I will surely stay again when I return to Ghana.

They communicated really well over email and confirmed my booking, including providing evidence to help with my visa application. When I arrived they were waiting for me at the airport and drove me home. Adjingo the guide helped me get around for the first few weeks, showing me how things worked in Ghana. Once I found my feet I mostly kept to myself, but there was always someone around to help if I needed. Issac was really helpful and even did my laundry for a small tip. Best of all there's a really nice cat that likes to spend time with the guests! (He likes chicken bones, bread and biscuits. Give him any of those and you have a friend for life!) The apartment itself was fine, very fancy by Ghanian standards actually. If you're coming from Europe for the first time remember that things are different in Ghana, for example it's almost unheard of to have hot water, you just don't need it as the country is so hot! The apartments all have mosquito screens over all the windows so you don't need to bring a mosquito net as long as you keep the door shut. It means you get a nice cool breeze a lot of the time too, you don't have to keep the windows shut. While I was there they got an impressive new internet connection set up. It seems to be roughly 1 or 2 megabit synchronous connection with pretty low latency and ample bandwidth. There was also great Vodafone reception, so tethering with HSDPA was also pretty fast. Again, coming from Europe it's a bit slower than what I was used to but for Ghana it seems to be a very decent setup. One thing to mention, if you search for "Legassi gardens" in Google maps you will find two results. The one marked as permanently closed has the wrong location, so make sure you're looking at the right one! If you're in a wheelchair or similar I wouldn't recommend the apartments as you have to climb stairs and getting up the hill to the gardens would be tricky! Otherwise I can't recommend Legassi gardens enough.

I had a very pleasant stay at Legassi Gardens. The owner is very responsive to the needs of the guests without being overbearing. The apartments are well-furnished and the kitchen had everything I needed. It's a short walk to the main road if you need to get to town. Anytime I needed something I just asked...one of the staff either showed me the way or got it for me. The grounds are also well-landscaped and offer a nice retreat from bustling Accra. My only inconvenience was that some of my electronics weren't compatible with the wall sockets but that was my short-sightedness. I was able to find a suitable plug adapter. All and all, would stay here again.

I stayed at Legassi Gardens for 4 months and it was indeed a very pleasant experience. The owners are very professional and they recently got another chef and the food has improved considerably. The peanut sauce with rice balls, the vegan pizzas are some of my new favourites, along with the traditional dishes like the banku and palm soup. The actual rooms themselves are clean and the beds are comfortable, but you'll find yourself out of town a lot to experience the wonders that Ghana has to offer. The location is very lively and though it is a bit of a distance from the centre of accra, there is a mall (St Johns) that can be reached in around 10 mimutes, that can expand your needs if there's something that your not able to get at the main town. Also - there is a wonderful tailor who can fit you with comfortable clothing that helps with the soaring heat. Recommended.

My stay at Legassi Gardens was very pleasant. My apartment was self-contained and very spacious. The cleaners change the sheets, wash, dust and sweep the apartment. Also the garden was lush and there was a nice breeze. The owner showed utter kindness and was very patient with my requests. I liked the restaurant. It was vegetarian, served delicious food and also had live performances every Friday evening. In the garden was table tennis and badminton. I was not very far from the city center as Pokuase road is now tarred. At the junction was a bus station with buses going all over Accra. Great value!!

Legassi Gardens embodies Ghana’s golden beauty, tradition and community. A lush canopy of trees keeps the property cool and fresh. Flowers and fruits brighten the compound and chickens, puppies and kittens skirt under foot. Despite the often oppressive heat and humidity of Accra, Pokuase’s hillside community has the sweet fortune of breezy nights. The rooms are appointed with a montage of colorful fabrics that weave authenticity into comfort. Wood work and mosaic tiles add refined dimension to the flats. My studio was spacious with a fully stocked kitchenette. I arrived with a mosquito, which I never hung, as insects were challenged by the solid construction and sealed screen windows. Nana and his team welcomed me like family. I was introduced to the tro-tros, junctions, night markets and the savory staples of traditional Ghanaian food. The vegan café and retail shop are convenient at the end of a long day. Whatever I needed was procured. The hospitality and generosity was abundant. I was truly overwhelmed by the authentic care I was afforded. Traveling as a single woman has its innate challenges, I always felt protected and nurtured. I would recommend this space for families and singles alike. Legassi Gardens is a jewel! It is the perfect respite from the kinetic energy of Accra. I look forward to my return.
