    The Spaceship

There's much more than meets the eye when it comes to this Roman retreat. Behind its historic facade lies a striking modern apartment over two levels, recently renovated and so quirky you'll want to start taking photos before you've unpacked. Location-wise, it couldn't get much better, with Piazza Navona and the Pantheon within an easy ten-minute walk. You'll enter through a traditional shared courtyard, bursting with historic features, but as soon as you open the front door you'll spot the complex, architect-designed interior – complete with structural steels, a clever mezzanine level in the building's loft and all sorts of surprising features. Think glass sections in the mezzanine floor, a metal staircase, studio workspace, angular windows and space-age lighting. But it's practical too, with everything you'll need for a comfortable stay. *While it can hold three people, this is essentially a studio apartment with a mezzanine so i...

    Shortbread

The classical design of Shortbread, with the columns and arches, might not be to everyone’s taste, but you can’t deny that it takes the theme and runs with it. If you are keen on the style, then you end up with a great-value flat, in one of the most beautiful areas of the city. The Tiber is less than a hundred metres away, while the actual street it’s on is a quiet dead-end, so you don’t need to worry about about hordes of tourists outside your front door. *There isn't a lot of natural light in some parts of the house – the living room in particular doesn't have a window *Two guests will be on a sofa bed in the living room *The wifi signal is not very strong, especially in the kitchen Air Conditioning Bathtub Black-Out Blinds Buzzer / Wireless Intercom Freezer Hair Dryer Iron Kitchen Microwave Multiple Sets of Keys Rain Shower TV Wi-fi...

    Trajan's Hideaway

You’ll find this charming apartment on the narrow, atmospheric Via dei Coronari (officially one of the world’s ten most beautiful streets), right in Rome’s historic centre. It’s just a two-minute stroll to buzzing Piazza Navona where cafés and restaurants spill out onto to pavement and ancient fountains still trickle away. Just across the River Tiber, a fifteen-minute walk takes you to the endless museums and Sistine Chapel at The Vatican. Housed in a building dating back to the 1500s, this apartment still radiates old-world charm which can immediately be felt by the 19th-century aedicule at the entrance. The wooden coffered ceiling and herringbone floor harks back to a bygone age and gilded mirrors and antique furnishings complete the feeling that you’ve stepped into an opulent home in the 19th century. Though it may seem like you’re staying in a museum, the practicalities have been thought of as well, with a full kitchen for your morn...

    Illusionism

Thanks to the attention given to every corner of this luxury apartment, it really feels like a home. The owners take care of it personally, and it's easy to feel the emotion they put into the space. Sit on one of two balconies with a glass of Italian wine or enjoy a family meal in the light-filled living space (your host provides a welcome hamper or let them arrange a private chef for you). Each room has its own private bathroom, so it's perfect for a family or a big group of friends. A rarity In Rome, this place also has a parking space. There are even some glimpses of the Vatican City from this abode, or it's a ten-minute ride to this treasure trove of iconic art and architecture. It's a twenty-minute drive to the stunning Trevi Fountain or the Baldo Degli Ubaldi metro station is just a minute away on foot, if you want to explore further. For some peaceful green space, on the other hand – head to Parco di Villa Carpegna with its shady...

    Naive Neon

Between Regola and the medieval alleys of the old Jewish Quarter, this gorgeous apartment is set within a 14th-century building tucked out of the way in the heart of historic Rome. The interior is perfectly pieced together and designed with your needs in mind. We were big fans of the interior design, particularly the accent wallpaper that makes the green theme pop. A well-equipped kitchen elevates your self-catering options – though with all that fantastic food on your doorstep, who's cooking? Finally, a gorgeous blue bedroom lends a sophisticated air to the apartment and an air of calmness and serenity to help you slip off speedily. Down at street level, you'll find several cafes and restaurants just around the corner, while trendy Trastevere is just a five-minute stroll across the Ponte Garibaldi. Elsewhere, the historic shopping street, Via Giulia, is 500m from your front door, while the likes of Piazza Navona, ...

    A Roman Kiss

While this two-bedroom Rome apartment isn't the most stylish in our collection, its enviable location is what makes it stand out. If you're here to explore, you'll find plenty of galleries and museums nearby. Back at home, one bedroom offers courtyard views, while the other lets you peer through trees at the River Tiber. The kitchen, while looking in need of an update, is well-equipped – though we think you'll be taking advantage of stylish Regola's eateries more often than not. *Given the home's central spot, expect to hear some street noise throughout your stay. Light sleepers might want to pack earplugs. *Two additional guests may be able to sleep on the sofa bed in the living room. We suggest speaking with the host to check availability for this. *Although it has everything you need to prepare meals, we felt the kitchen was on the smaller side. *While this home is in an apartment building, there are no concierge or hou...

    Three Stags

While you can’t actually see the Vatican walls from Three Stags, turn right out of the door and walk about twenty metres and they’re right there. It’s a great location, which is fitting as it’s a great flat. Rather than seeking to preserve a crumbling old flat, Valeria’s recently redone the whole place, updating it without losing the character of the original place. There’s tonnes of space, given that it only has one bedroom, so having a couple of extra people sleeping in the living room is no problem (though three might be a squeeze). *Two people can sleep on a sofa bed in the living room. There's also an armchair that turns into a bed but three people in the living room would be too many *The kitchen is long and narrow – not great for socialising Air Conditioning Bicycles Buzzer / Wireless Intercom Central Heating Coffee Maker Cooking Essentials Dishwasher Free Parking On Street Fridge Hair ...

    Ivory - Brick

With a bright living area and a cool industrial design, this apartment is perfect for groups. Three comfortable bedrooms and a double sofa bed ensure there's enough space for everyone – we can easily imagine family breakfasts in the kitchen before setting off on a Roman adventure. All the essentials are covered, too, from air conditioning to kitchen appliances. Plus, the location right by Termini train station makes zipping around the city centre a breeze. You can also walk to the Colosseum, less than thirty minutes away. *This home can sleep a maximum of 6 adults and 2 children under 2 years old. Please let your host know if you'll be staying with toddlers/babies. *At full capacity, two guests will sleep on the sofa bed in the living area. *If you're travelling with little ones, your host can arrange a cot and high chair on request. *Some of the bedrooms have a desk in them, but the dining table can also be used as a lapt...

    Tales From The Riverbank

Finding a street close to it all but not inundated with tourists is the holy grail in Rome – and that's precisely where you'll find this apartment. We call it the Goldilocks zone. But, ever the professional, your host Michele hasn’t used that as an excuse to rest on his laurels. The flat itself is in perfect condition, and while it doesn’t have the feeling of a family home, that’s often a good thing when it's not a sprawling home with space for all the host's personal items. The two bedrooms are on opposite sides of the flat, which is perfect for groups of friends travelling together, though families might want little ones closer by, or not. We understand. Sandwiched between the river and lively Campo de' Fiori, you're in a prime location to explore the city. The square is home to the city's most vibrant (and occasionally overpriced) street market (Monday-Saturday mornings). Still, this famous foodie haven is a good place to stock up on...

    Roman Rhapsody

A quirky base in Rome, this home is the attic of a building, so sits amid Rome’s rooftops. This means there are a lot of stairs to climb – it’s not going to be suitable for everyone and isn’t recommended for children under the age of six. But if you can manage the stairs, you’re rewarded with a charming home-from-home. The apartment even boasts a private terrace – the perfect spot for alfresco dining – and is next to a chapel designed by Raphael in the 1500s. You’ll share your outside space with the original bell tower. Seeing more of Rome’s architecture and history is a breeze, as you’re within walking distance of all the main attractions, including Campo de’ Fiori – just a five-minute stroll. *There’s no lift at this home, which is the attic of the building on the third floor. There are also stairs between the floors of the apartment, so you’ll need to be able to climb stairs to stay here. *This home is not recommended for chi...

    Pied Piper

Despite only being a twenty-three-minute walk from the Vatican, this is a cute and surprisingly calming flat. It's housed in an early 20th-century building with heaps of Roman character, and yet modern and cosy inside with its playful pink colour scheme, light wood flooring and tasteful artwork. After an afternoon taking in the delights of St. Peter's Basilica, devouring all sorts of pizza and limoncello-based drinks, return to the light and airy living space with a chic pink dining table at its core – perfect for coming together for a well-needed cuppa and a slice of a cake. Sitting down to relive the best parts of the day, you'll notice the low-hanging lighting, antique mirrors and retro drinks trolley in the corner. This home cuts no corners when it comes to the little touches. Wandering into the bedrooms you'll find original patterns and vibrant wallpaper prints that remind us of a bygone era. Those lucky enough to be residing in th...

    Rare Roman Find

If you've been dreaming of a Roman holiday, this one-bed apartment may do the trick. Located on the second floor of an Umbertine period building, this homestay oozes character inside and out. Expect to find here a quiet sanctuary to rest your head between all the sightseeing you'll undoubtedly do in this storied city. The Vatican, Piazza del Popolo, Castel Sant'Angelo, and many more attractions are all within walking distance, not to mention the impressive number of authentic eateries, charming shopping streets, and grand plazas just a stone's throw away. That being said, with its very own private terrace acting as an oasis amid the flurry of a vibrant city, you could just as easily spend your evenings reading under the stars or dining alfresco. *There's no lift here. You'll need to be able to climb two flights of stairs to reach the entrance of the home. *This property is suitable for children older than three years of age. <br...

    Roman Statues

This apartment is perfectly located for exploring Rome. It’s just a five-minute stroll from Piazza del Popolo, and it's surrounded by local restaurants and bars. Other major attractions within walking distance include Villa Borghese, the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain. Another highlight is the private garden here – a great place to relax after a busy day of sightseeing. The main bedroom also has a four-poster bed, a separate dressing room and an en-suite. Book this home to experience all that the vibrant culture of Rome has to offer. *This apartment is located on the lower ground floor, but it's still on street level. *This home has air conditioning. *Parking in Rome can be tricky, so we recommend sticking to easily accessible public transport where possible. A Secret History

This recently refurbished yet authentic home in Italy’s hot-blooded capital city can be yours for a little as 3 nights or for as long as a month or more. Located in the medieval neighbourhood of Borgo Pio, this home’s serene yet rustic interior, complete with wooden floors and ceilings, is reflective of its heritage and yet perfectly suited to modern living. In the mornings you’ll want to take your coffee in the light filled sitting room and pore over one of this home’s many coffee table books before heading out for a day of sightseeing. Adjacent to the Vatican City, you’ll be perfectly placed to enjoy a stroll through picturesque, pedestrianised streets, before marvelling at the scale and majesty of Saint Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel. Return via the Passetto Papale (a view of which can be seen from your home’s terrace), a semi-secret passageway connecting the Vatican to the mighty Castel Sant Angelo — commissioned by...

You can’t visit Rome without visiting the Vatican City – luckily this stylish abode is just a five-minute stroll to St. Peter's Square. It’s also only a ten-minute walk to the Vatican Museums, as well as Castel Sant'Angelo with its large roof terrace offering breathtaking views across the city. Right on this apartment’s street, there’s a range of restaurants, gelaterias and cafés to choose from – we think this is a wonderful location. After all that sightseeing, you’ll need somewhere super comfortable to return to. If you don’t fancy eating out for dinner, cook some pasta and enjoy at the dining table, next to the window with views across the neighbourhood. The bedrooms, with little touches like the distressed metal lights, and warm parquet floors, make for a charming retreat. So, when in Rome, if you want the perfect setting, combined with a comfortable home, look no further. *There's no lift in the building – so be prepared to cl...

    Fingertips

Fingertips is in a great position, close to both the Jewish Quarter and Campo de’ Fiori, the home of Rome’s most famous market. The layout of the flat makes it quite a flexible proposition – if the living room needs to be used as a bedroom, it can be closed off from the other communal areas, and you wouldn’t know it wasn’t permanent (except for the sofa bed). All in all, it’s a cute flat, with some nice period furniture, but it’s the location that really lifts it to the next level. *There's a short flight of steps to reach the front door *Unfortunately, this home doesn't have any air conditioning *If six people are staying at once, sharing one bathroom might become a little tedious *The shower is on the small side *The kitchen is a bit short of sockets *There is no TV in this home *There aren't any laundry facilities Bathtub Black-Out Blinds Bread Maker Buzzer / Wireless Intercom Central Heati...

    A Roman Rose

A picture of elegance, this apartment is a superb base in Rome. It’s centrally located, housed in a 19th-century building on Via del Corso, a short walk from iconic sights like the Trevi Fountain and Castel Sant’Angelo. The apartment is refined and luxurious, with touches of marble, terracotta, and oak throughout. One of the two living rooms overlooks the terrace, a splendid spot for an evening cocktail. The well-equipped kitchen has everything you might need to cook for yourselves, though there are plenty of excellent restaurants nearby if you’re not a keen chef. *The WC in bedroom one’s en-suite is separate from the bathroom. *There are no TVs in this home. *Your host can provide a travel cot for little ones on request. *There are exterior security cameras at this home. The Little Dome

This little yet mighty refuge is not your usual Roman stereotype. It's a lovingly curated, fresh and functional spot from which to take in the sights of the Eternal City. Walk seven minutes to Rome's most striking water feature: Trevi Fountain (coins at the ready). After tossing your pennies into the world-famous attraction, descend the historical Spanish Steps to the Piazza di Spagna, only fifteen minutes from your home. When you've shopped, wandered and sipped limoncellos to your heart's content head back home to find a quiet and serene apartment. Sink into the leather sofa in the living area, benefitting from a forest-green colour scheme, curated plants and colourful abstract artwork. Sit down for a late lunch while admiring the statement dome wallpaper in the dining area – we really loved it. And while there's so much to see and do around here, find time to snuggle up in the cosy and warming bedroom. It's a real charmer. *At ma...

    Eva's Nest

Sleek and sophisticated with a dash of luxe, Eva's Nest is a superb choice for its enviable location just minutes from Via Condotti and Piazza di Spagna. Perfect for any group seeking the buzz of the historic centre, this space is equally ideal for some much-needed R\u0026R after long days on your feet. Plush velvet, wood floors, elegant gilding, and soft tones echo the colours of Rome while light - airy bedrooms, each with a contemporary en-suite, offer extra privacy. Although the kitchen is compact, the large dining area and charming balcony offer lovely spaces for eating in. *The apartment overlooks Via del Gambero which is lined with shops so you’ll likely hear some regular street noise from below *Though well equipped, the kitchen is quite compact and narrow so there won’t be space for too many chefs in the kitchen *The home is on the second floor of a building without a lift so there are a few stairs to climb on arrival...

    A Roman Rhapsody

If you’re wanting a unique place to stay in Rome, then look no further. This treasure chest of a home, with its 19th-century stuccoes, antiques, and gold leaf accents, is certainly one-of-a-kind. You won’t find a TV here, but we think the theatre and speakeasy room downstairs, complete with a gilded bar, will provide all the entertainment you need. The tiny kitchenette is better suited to keeping your Prosecco chilled than preparing a meal, so you’ve got the perfect excuse to eat out at one of the many restaurants on the doorstep. And for discovering the capital, Rome’s must-see, the Colosseum, is just a twenty-minute walk away. *There isn’t a TV here. *The kitchenette is very small and doesn’t have an oven – though there is a hob. We think it’s better suited to prepping lighter bites than large meals. *You'll find lots of antiques in this home, so it might not be the best choice if you're travelling with young children. <br...

This apartment is in an ideal location for culture vultures. It’s a fifteen-minute walk to the myriad museums and galleries of the Vatican and five minutes to the ancient Castel Sant’Angelo. The streets around buzz with local trattoria and pizzerias and, after sunset, the wine bars chatter to life. With all that activity on your doorstep, you’ll want a soothing haven to return to, and this pristine white apartment is exactly that. Pot plants, tapestry art and a raw wood dining table are natural accents against the otherwise pure white motif and built-in bookshelves show off a precise collection of global trinkets. Long, typically Roman windows flood the place with sunlight making it a joy to wake up and enjoy another day in the Italian capital. *The third bedroom is quite small, and doesn't have any storage space or bedside tables *Eight guests would be a lot, given the size of the communal areas and the two bathrooms *T...

    The Modern Historian

Sitting on the banks of the Tiber River in the authentic Rione XX Testaccio neighbourhood, this apartment puts you in an ideal position to experience the best of the city's history and culture. You're a short walk from the start of the Roman Forum which leads to the beloved Colosseum in just a matter of minutes. Along with the top sights, renowned pastry shops, cosy eateries, and alfresco bars will please traditionalists and creatives alike. Inside, kick back with a good glass of Rioja on the plush sofa, stick on a movie from the home's impressive collection and recover from a busy day of sightseeing. Whether you're waking up in the comfortable bedroom or preparing breakfast in the open kitchen and dining area, you'll feel perfectly at home in this elegant yet cosy space. But the real standout here is the desirable postcode. Beat the crowds with an early morning visit to the Trevi Fountain or explore the Pantheon and the...

    The Gatekeeper of Rome

Live out your Italian Castello dreams at this oh-so-regal apartment housed in a medieval hamlet standing high on a hill within striking distance of Rome (a twenty-minute journey, to be exact). Behind the charming ochre facades and fairy-tale towers, discover a lofty apartment oozing period character. Once belonging to a Duke, you can almost feel the history and drama played out within its majestic walls. The portico arches remain to elegantly space out the open-plan apartment, while everything else has been reimagined to deliver all the creature comforts, including a smart kitchen space to rustle up a light bite to eat. Pad out across the cool, terracotta tiles onto the suntrap shared courtyard for alfresco breakfasts. Then beat the heat with a dip in the sublime shared pool cradled by pine and olive trees. Thanks to its elevated position, perched between the Marcigliana Nature Reserve, River Tiber, and the Reatini...

    Pantheon Vista

It’s hard to define the ‘perfect’ location in Rome, but Pantheon Vista makes a good go of it. Overlooking the famous dome, it’s just a stone’s throw from sights like Campo de’ Fiori and institutions like Caffè Sant’Eustachio. The interior is elegant, although the lack of natural light in the kitchen is a shame given the lovely cabinets and fittings. Two of the sofas double up as single beds, and the host is happy to have a party of four, but we think it might get a bit cramped and there’d be very little privacy, so only recommend it for two people. *There are no bedside tables *The layout of the flat makes the kitchen quite dark *Tall guests beware - the highest shower is 195cm *Wile the host is happy to have four guests, we think that it would be most comfortable with two Air Conditioning Black-Out Blinds Buzzer / Wireless Intercom Carbon Monoxide Detector Central Heating Child Friendly Coffee Maker...

    Verde Cadente

Perched along a quiet cobbled street on the outskirts of bustling Campo de' Fiori, you'll find this Italian villa apartment. While the caramel-coloured exterior and lofty ceilings inside show the bones of this period building, the rest of the apartment is expertly reimagined for modern living. Peer out through the lounge's dual aspect windows with your morning coffee to reveal charming vignettes of balconies tumbling with greenery –? precisely as you'd imagine a traditional Italian street to be. Mirror Sand

Fendi are one of the great design families in the world, so you can imagine how excited we were to test Mirror Sand. It’s inside the new Alda Fendi Foundation, designed by the superstar architect Jean Nouvel, and right next to the Roman Forums. It works similarly to a hotel, the apartment is geared towards the independence that you get with a proper living room and kitchen. We also liked the ridiculously deep bathtub – it’s a wonderful place to relax after a day in the bustle of Rome. You’ll never want to get out. *If you want a style that's classically Roman, the industrial touches might be a bit much *As this is a serviced apartment, if you're after the feeling of a lived-in home, you won't find it here *Your host owns multiple apartments within this building, so the exact view, furnishings and layout might differ from the photos, but the size and standard will be the same *Only the most basic ingredients are provide...

    Liberty in Rome

Step into the heart of the Eternal City with a stay in this cosy pad, nestled in the vibrant Trastevere neighbourhood. Tailor-made for two, it’s the perfect place to relax after a busy day – that said, you can add a couple more guests in with the sofa bed in the living room, though it’s a bit of a squeeze. The kitchen here is basic, so you won’t be able to test your culinary skills too much – but with restaurants lining the streets below, meals out are a must. And with Trastevere station nearby, you'll have easy access to public transport when you’re ready to explore Rome. *At full occupancy, two guests will be sleeping on the sofa bed in the living area. *This home is near a busy road, so expect to hear some traffic noise during your stay. *You won't find an oven here – though there is a hob. We think the kitchen is better suited to prepping lighter bites than large meals. *Parking in Rome can be tricky, so we recommend...
