And we think this 500-year-old stone cottage sitting in the shadow of Scafell Pike is an ideal retreat. It is delightfully cosy, with wooden beams and exposed stonework adding character and warmth. Outside, a riverside paddock is enclosed by those old stone walls the Lake District is famous for, and you can brunch at the picnic table overlooked by the fells.
