Description: Villa-House in King Valley

Cheshunt Cabins - Main 3 singles + sm side room with Dble bed. Basic but clean

This is a Seasonal Rental with a maximum of 6 month term.
Backpackers, travellers, Woofa's, drop ins and long term stay.
Cheshunt Cabins are 1950s workers huts that are being renovated into clean accommodation. We have 4 cabins finished and as plans progress will slowly add more amenities. The room is basic but clean. Fresh sheets and linen provided. Private rooms. Cheshunt is a quiet Australian country town set in the beautiful King Valley region of Victorian highlands. 3 hours from Melbourne. Set amidst lots of noted wineries and farms the area offers Trout and Murray Cod fishing, National parks with wild deer and Australian animals, kangaroos, wombats, Koalas and a huge variety of native birds. Lake William Hovell is 15 km up the road and walking, biking, trecking, canooing, golf, all close.
We are located in the Cheshunt town adjoining farms. Your GPS may not work in this area. There is a local general store 100m, the King River 200m and a bus service to major towns Monday Wednesday and Friday per week. If you come to the Cheshunt store on the Wangaratta Whitfield Road, C521, proceed 80m past the store and turn left into Edi Cheshunt Road, it also has Carbour on it, and then proceed another 80m and we are the cabins on the left.
As an avid backpacker and traveller myself I know only too well many places are dirty with bad beds. At Cheshunt Cabins my goal is to provide good clean beds and linen, clean toilets, cooking facilities with frig, freezer and washing machines to save you money. The property is old but those that have stayed have given wonderful feedback and enjoyed themselves. If you are wanting to experience Australian life then this is the place for you.
We are not an employment agency and do not own the farms or wineries but there is a lot of seasonal work available in the area. Grape picking and pruning, fruit picking and hospitality work. Like most jobs one has to get out and talk to people and phone around for jobs. They pay between $16 to $24 per hour depending on what jobs you will be doing. We will be offering some Woofa work. Free accommodation and basic meals for about 3 to 4 hours work per day. Gardening, painting, renovations, weeding, maintenance etc. Not back breaking or slave labour but with a fun element. These wil be limited in numbers and available throughout the year.
I also know what it is like to assimulate to local language (Aussie and not English) and meeting new friends. You will find me very helpful and understanding in these matters. Being an ex executive I can also help with any business matters or talking with authorities when in difficulty or experiencing language problems.
We will have cabins and dorms available from as little as $20 per night Some of the cheapest rates in Australia.

If you want a tasted of the 1960 and old fashion hospitality you will have it from Alistair. It is like the old pioneers time lovely and clean. The kitchen is like a meeting place for a discussion whit Alistair. A lovely place to stay ,good hot shower. We did have a very lovely stay. Lenie and George..

What you see is what you get at Cheshunt Cabins and it was exactly as Alistair told us it would be. A work in progress, but clean and comfortable at the end of the day. I travelled with my two sons and my Mum and we were accommodated very well and made to feel very welcome. My 15 yr old especially enjoyed an evening game of chess with Alistair. This will be a great place to stay when it is completed for families and for now it is great value for money. I really look forward to the shower working properly but we plan on visiting again. Thanks!

If you don't want 5 star accommodation gormet food and wide selections of wine, but want somewhere that is friendly, comfortable and you are made to feel welcome, the Cheshunt Cabins is an option to consider. As backpacker accomodation the quality is acceptable. Just make sure you travel to Cheshunt directly as the navigation aids will lead you floundering, The location is, after you turn left from the Whitfield Cheshunt road onto the the Edi Cheshunt road (other side goes to Hume Hovell Dam), 80m on left. Signage is not obvious.

We ( a group of 8 ) spend the weekend with Alistair at his charming guest house, We were cycling between the wineries during the day and at nights Alistair organised a Bon-Fire for us . He was very accommodating and caring and is a fascinating man to have a drink with. Many thanks Alistair !

avatar a very welcome find at the end of a strenuous day.

When exhausted from hiking in the nearby hills I was made very comfortable on a short notice drop in stay. Heated room, comfortable bed (with linen etc provided), good bathroom/shower and kitchen facilities, and a welcoming host were a joy to find at that late stage in what had been a very long day. Thank you Alistair I am more than happy to recommend your hospitality to other travelers.

avatar No fuss, good bed.

Alistair is truly an interesting man. He made us feel very welcome. Great beds, very comfortable. This is a no fuss easy place to stay as a base for all the beautiful surrounding wineries.

My friends and I (60 plus years young) stayed in the Cheshunt cabins in Cheshunt and found them not only very reasonably priced but delightful! The owner Alistair was interesting and he has created a gorgeous garden. The rooms were clean and beds comfortable. The kitchen was adequate - we cooked a few meals - with a big table to eat at. Hot shower. Terrific value for money in a beautiful area of Victoria ... went to the dam and a few wineries and walked - well worth a visit!

avatar Great acclimatisation for a Winter camping trip up to the Victorian High Country.

Cheap and cheerful. Beds were comfortable and showers warm. Alistair was very accomodating and helped make our stay one to remember. I'd recommend this property and great value for campers.
